Project Overview

The project is located in Luoyang, Henan, China, with an annual production capacity of 50,000 t/y for aluminum hydroxide. The plant processes wet aluminum hydroxide filter cake from the wet-process production line, requiring continuous moisture reduction before downstream processing.

The main drying equipment is a Φ1.5 × 14 m Rotary Dryer, integrated with the existing production line. Supporting equipment includes wet grid ball mills, crushers, a hot-air supply system, and dust collection equipment for continuous material handling and processing.

The drying system was designed to improve feed stability, control the moisture of the dried aluminum hydroxide, and provide suitable material conditions for the subsequent crushing and grinding stages.

Customized Crushing Solution

For Luoyang Zhongchao Aluminum’s 50,000 t/y aluminum hydroxide project, Zhongyi selected a Φ1.5 × 14 m Rotary Dryer based on the moisture and handling characteristics of the wet aluminum hydroxide filter cake and the existing plant layout. The filter cake tends to retain moisture and agglomerate, so the dryer was fitted with a suitable lifting and material-dispersion arrangement to improve turnover inside the drum, reduce build-up, and provide sufficient residence time for moisture removal.

The drying system was integrated with the existing jaw crusher, double-roll crusher, and two wet grid ball mills, with no major changes to the downstream process. A controlled hot-air system, drum sealing, and cyclone plus bag-filter dust collection were provided to maintain stable drying conditions, limit heat and material losses, and control fine-particle emissions. The final configuration provides a stable moisture-controlled feed for the subsequent crushing and grinding stages and supports continuous operation of the production line.

On-Site Performance

After installation, commissioning, and trial operation, the rotary dryer ran steadily under the designed operating conditions. The optimized lifting arrangement reduced material build-up and agglomeration inside the drum, while the dried aluminum hydroxide was discharged evenly with moisture controlled to the required level.

The dryer outlet was connected directly with the jaw crusher, fine crusher, double-roll crusher, and wet grid ball mills, maintaining smooth material transfer without blockage during operation. The complete line reached its designed 50,000 t/y production capacity. The sealing system helped limit hot-air leakage, while the dust collection and recovery system captured fine powder and kept material loss under control.

The drying unit supports continuous operation with routine maintenance kept to a practical level. Stable material flow and good coordination between the drying, crushing, and grinding sections help maintain consistent plant operation and support long-term production.
