What is a Vibrating Grizzly Feeder?
A Vibrating Grizzly Feeder, also called a vibrating grizzly feeder (VGF) or grizzly feeder, is a feeding and pre-screening equipment used to regulate material flow and remove fine particles before primary crushing. It is typically installed between the hopper or dump truck discharge and primary crusher (such as a jaw crusher), and works as the first stage of the crushing line.
The equipment uses vibration force generated by motors or exciters to move material forward along the grizzly bars. Fine materials fall through the gaps for bypassing or secondary processing, while larger materials continue to the crusher. This improves crushing efficiency and reduces load on downstream equipment.
It is widely used in mining, quarry, and aggregate production lines. Typical handling capacity can reach around 50–800 t/h, depending on model and material conditions, ensuring stable and continuous feeding for heavy-duty crushing systems.
Working Principle
Vibrating grizzly feeder uses a vibration motor or exciter to generate directional excitation force, driving the feeder trough to perform controlled reciprocating motion on an inclined angle. This motion enables continuous material flow while maintaining stable and uniform feed to downstream equipment.
The excitation force is transmitted directly to the rigid trough body, causing linear or near-linear vibration. Under this action, materials are lifted and thrown forward in a repeated cycle. Each movement shifts the material progressively toward the discharge end under the combined effect of vibration force and gravity.
During conveying, the integrated grizzly bars perform pre-screening. Fine particles fall through the bar gaps and are separated in advance, while oversize materials are retained on the surface and continue toward primary crushing equipment such as a jaw crusher.
Parts
The vibrating grizzly screen feeder is composed of several key components, including the hopper, grizzly bars, vibrating body, vibration motor, spring system, and base frame. Each part works together to ensure stable feeding, effective pre-screening, and reliable operation in heavy-duty material handling applications.
Hopper
The hopper is designed to receive bulk materials from loaders or dump trucks. It is built with wear-resistant steel plates to withstand heavy impact and continuous loading.
Grizzly Bars
Adjustable grizzly bars perform primary screening by separating fine materials before crushing. The spacing can be customized according to feed size requirements, improving crushing efficiency.
Vibrating Body
The main body carries the material during operation and ensures uniform feeding. It is structurally reinforced for high-load and long-term industrial use.
Vibration Motor
The vibration motor provides the driving force for stable and continuous vibration. It ensures consistent material flow and reduces blockage risks.
Spring System
Heavy-duty springs absorb vibration energy and isolate the base structure, ensuring smooth operation and reducing mechanical stress.
Base Frame
The base frame supports the entire feeder and maintains structural stability during operation. It can be designed for stationary or skid-mounted installation.

FAQs
1.What is the function of a GZT Vibrating Grizzly Feeder?
A GZT Vibrating Grizzly Feeder delivers material evenly to the primary crusher while removing fines through the grizzly section. This helps improve material flow and reduce unnecessary crushing.
2.Why is a grizzly section important in a crushing plant?
The grizzly section screens out smaller material before crushing. This reduces the amount of fines entering the crusher, lowers wear on wear parts, and improves crushing efficiency.
3. What materials can a GZT Grizzly Feeder handle?
It is suitable for granite, basalt, limestone, river stone, iron ore, coal, and construction waste. The feeder is designed for heavy-duty applications with large and abrasive materials.
4.How much capacity can a GZT Vibrating Grizzly Feeder provide?
Capacity varies by model, typically ranging from 100 to over 900 T/H. The right model depends on feed size, material characteristics, and plant output requirements.
5. How does stable feeding affect crusher performance?
Uneven feeding can reduce crusher efficiency and increase wear. A GZT feeder provides a steady material flow, helping the crusher operate at a more consistent and productive rate.
6.Can a GZT feeder reduce crusher operating costs?
Yes. By removing fines before crushing and maintaining a controlled feed rate, the feeder helps reduce unnecessary crushing, wear part consumption, and maintenance frequency.
7. Is a GZT Vibrating Grizzly Feeder suitable for recycling applications?
Yes. In construction and demolition (C&D) recycling lines, it efficiently scalps out fine soil and debris from concrete blocks. This pre-screening prevents mud contamination before the bulk recycling materials are crushed by a downstream mobile impact crusher.
8.Does Zhongyi provide customized GZT Vibrating Grizzly Feeders?
Yes. Zhongyi can customize feeder size, grizzly spacing, capacity, and structural configuration based on material type, feed size, plant layout, and project requirements to match different crushing and recycling applications.
